Riesling
This white wine is from the Alsace
region in France, with an alcohol level of 13%. I had a bottle of the 2010 Albert Mann "Cuvee Albert" Alsace
Riesling. The wine comes with a
screwtop, which some traditionalists believe to be taboo, especially for a
quality wine, but this wine debunks the myth as it's super fresh.
Actually, I would conlude that this srewtop in particular keeps the
wine at its peak freshness, especailly if it is to be consumed in the next 5
years. If you visit this winemaker's website, you will see a very
technichal, long explanation as to why they chose a screwtop.
They use terms such as "organoleptic capacities," which I
believe in the end "makes it taste good" in layman's terms.
Enough with that. Back to the wine.
On the nose: Lychee fruit.
Granny Smith apples. Gasoline or petrol quilities, but in a good
way. Very different aroma than other Rieslings. It has a heavy
quality. Hopefully the taste will be as good as the smell. Imagine
if you are at your local gas station and while you are filling up on $4.56
Shell V-Power® Premium 93 Octane Gasoline, sliced apples start to pour out of
your car, even the sunroof. Very weird, but it could happen?!?
Palate: Sour lemon and those
Granny Smith apples from the car again. Very acidic. Melon
soup. Long, tart finish. Would pair nicely with some spicey
foods. Order in some Thai maybe? Finish is medium to long, but the
mid palate is where this wine shines. I would even store some bottles for
the next Turkey day (only 150 cases were imported to the domestic market),
and wow the crowd with this gem.
