2008 Bodega Goulart Reserve Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon

Argentina

This red is a blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, from the Mendoza region.  This wine has an alcohol level of 14%,   I took down a bottle of 2008 Bodega Goulart Reserve Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine on the shelf cannot be missed as it has a huge “R” to notify the customer that this is a Reserve bottling, which means nothing in terms of its classification. The vineyard hired Luis Barraud as the vintner.  Luis and his wife are partners with Paul Hobbs in his Cobos project.  Paul is a well respected owner/winemaker and is mostly known for his work in California.  Even though Paul Hobbs is not affiliated with this particular endeavor, the fact that Bodega Goulart hired Luis shows their pursuit of a great product.

On the nose: Strawberry Jell-O® (remember those Bill Cosby commercials).  I am not really impressed with how it smells.  Very one dimensional.  Plums and pipe smoke.  Deep purple color.

Palate: From what I got on the nose, this wine tastes a lot different.  Over delivers on taste.  Medium length on the finish.  Alcohol is in check.  Berries and sweet orange marmalade. This is a perfect weekday pizza wine.  Do not think it will hold up with time, drink it now for instant gratification.
