2008 Two Hands Charlie’s Patch Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon

This wine is from Napa California. I purchased this from WTSO on June 2, 2011 and drank it about two months ago. The grapes are all sourced from Napa and are from the prestigious Howell Mountain and Spring Mountain areas. The 2008 vintage in Napa had very low yields due to a cool summer which gave the grapes a slower ripening season. The winemaker is one of the most sought-after blenders in the Napa Valley. Thomas Rivers Brown’s portfolio of wines is very impressive, including Schrader Cellars & Maybach Family Vineyards (these Cabs are no stranger to Parker’s 100pts). Two Hands is more known for producing Australian wines.  Michael Twelftree founded this winery in 1999 and this was his venture into sunny California. I happily consumed the 2008 Two Hands Charlie’s Patch Cabernet Sauvignon.

On the nose: Screaming scents of violet flowers and bitter chocolate.  The wine smells fancy, like it’s about to go out for a night on the town.  Can’t pin down all the scents, but brings you to a place of luxury.  Very impressive. 40 greenbacks are a lot for a wine, but some pay $100-200 or more on release for these crazy Cali cults that will give you the same sensations.

Palate: Very primary, tight.  Needs more time.  I let it sit overnight.  The fruit is on point and it has a long dusty finish that lasts for at least 30+ seconds.  Good Tannins, could see this lasting more than 10 years in the cellar if you are so inclined, but gives immediate satisfaction if need be.  Would pair well with a 24 oz Cowboy bone-in Ribeye cooked Pittsburgh style from Ben Benson’s Steakhouse.

Rating Scale (out of 5 +):
++++½

Price:
$40

R.I.P.
