2006 Château De Callac Graves Blanc

White Bordeaux

This wine is from the Graves subregion in Bordeaux.  Graves produces many different styles of wine from Cabernet heavy reds to its popular white dessert wine, Sauterenes.  This, of course, is a white, which many well-known châteaus in the Graves region produce, including Château La Tour Martillac & Château Smith Haut Lafite to name a pair.  This quaffable bottle was consumed some time ago, but white Bordeaux is perfect for the summer season and the 2006 Château De Callac Graves Blanc is one château that I would recommend seeking out. This château is set atop one of the highest points in Graves with limestone and clay soil. This white wine is a blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc.

On the nose: If you like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain (a Rupert Holmes classic) or some Coconut Telegraph by Buffett, this is the wine for you. Shout out to the Parrotheads out there.  Definite smell of shredded dried coconut.  Very sweet.  Keeps your attention.  Want to smell this more once you leave the glass.  Faint smell of fresh butter which balances out the sweet quite nicely.

Palate: Cantaloupe melon. Not too dry, but has some length. I like how it’s not too sweet or too dry. Touch of salt, but not salty.  Really nice balance, which leads me to believe it would go well with or without food.  But if I were to pick something to pair, I think it would be dynamite with some Oysters Rockefeller.
