White Burgundy
This wine is from the Mâconnais region of Burgundy. Mâconnais is
located in the southern part of the Burgundy region and its name is derived
from the town Mâcon. This region is mainly known for the chardonnay
varietal. Saint-Véran is an appellation in this region and turns out some
really good quality white wines that can be purchased on the cheap here in the
States. The Domaine is situated in the village of Fuisse and was founded
in 1967. I had a summer sipping bottle of the 2008 Domaine Thibert
Père et Fils St. Véran Champ Rond. It has an alcohol content of
13%.
On the nose: Peach cobbler. Little hay. Slight hint of pears
reduced in sugar. Smells alright, nothing over the top or striking.
Smells like one of those chardonnays in the wine store that has a dumb animal
in a silly outfit on the label just to be eye-catching and get someone to put
it into the cart. Uninspiring.
Palate: Initial taste of gala apples. Good acidity and minerality. Looks like this is making up for the flat nose.
Definitely would serve this to company in the backyard, but I wouldn’t
set it aside for a special occasion. Quaffable. Needs food. I would
do this up right with a lobster roll from Miller’s Lobster Co. in
Spruce Head, Maine. The best lobster rolls.
